This post actually stemmed from a conversation I had with one of my friends at Step Sing tonight and it’s one of those things that I tell people but I don’t at the same time and I don’t think people actually realize that I’m serious.
The WHOLE reason I was Journalism major when I came to Samford was because I going to get a job at a Magazine to get my name out there and eventually just write fiction books. The dream has shifted slightly and I can’t imagine actually working for a magazine, funny how God works sometimes. I still want to be a writer and I would love to write fiction as well as some Bible Study curriculum. But all to say, I want to be writer.
For those of you who don’t know, my all-time favorite author Karen Kingsbury. I’ve read ALL of her books at least once and am anxiously waiting for March 5th when her book, The Chance comes out. Anyway, I’ve had the opportunity to meet Karen twice now. The first time was on a Christian Women’s Cruise when I was in high school and I had just gotten into writing. Karen Kingsbury read one of my short stories, remembered me by name, and gave me advice. Best Day of My Life. But really. Karen was at Samford last week and I got the opportunity to talk to her for a minute after she got speaking. Her message was about making our lives a bestseller and it was great word.
I hope that one day God can use me and my writing to touch lives like Karen Kingsbury has touched lives. I really do want to be author and I had a MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENT in mid-January because I finished my first full rough draft of book. It was so exciting and probably one of the biggest complishments of the year, next to graduating from college, of course (but we’re not talking about that). It still has a LONG way to go but I’m quite proud of myself and am one step closer to seeing a book with my byline on it sitting on a shelf in a bookstore, something I’ve been dreaming about and working towards for about six years now.
I just wanted to put the info out there because it’s something that is a big part of my life. Oh, for record, if you’ve ever heard me talking to myself, chances are you’ve really just heard me writing outloud :). One important thing to do, THANK YOU to all my friends who have listened to me rant and rave and talk book for as long as I need to and most importantly been my editors because this girl has some awful grammar and I leave words.
